The event is now called Style Wednesday, is gender neutral and no longer wears a competition for the best dressed people.
Fancy Dress remains forbidden, but pants, jackets and ties and formal shoes are no longer mandatory, allowed with jeans and trainers allowed.
“Horse races has always been a sport that people with all the different backgrounds have enjoyed and it is really important for us to be accessible and inclusive,” said Jockey Club director Kevin Truesdale when the change was introduced.
“We hope that by no longer putting an expectation to people of what they should and should not wear, we can help emphasize that racing is really for everyone.
“For those who visit our locations, A Day At The Races is all about spending quality leisure time with friends and family and we believe that people have fun when they feel relaxed. A large part of it is wearing clothing in which you are comfortable.
“When we assessed this area of the Raceday experience, it was clear to us that maintaining a clothing regulations seems to be rather outdated in the 21st century, in the eyes of many of our racing feast.
“That does not mean that we discourage people from dressing for a day on the races if they want. This is about giving people a choice and the possibility of racing dressed, but they feel the most comfortable and confident, while they also take into account the challenges that are regularly presented by the British weather. “

Cheltenham Style Wednesday outfits: Slow Fashion Awards
