Vincent Kompany does not think about the potential consequences of Bayern Munich who leaves the Champions League to Inter Milan, because he and his team retain the belief that they will prevail.
The opportunities are apparently stacked against Bayern, who lost the first stage with 2-1 in the Allianz Arena last week.
The side of Kompany has to do with a large number of injuries, with Jamal Musiala, Dayot Upamecano and Alphonso Davies under that not available.
Bayern is in an excellent position to recover the Bundesliga title of Bayer Leverkusen, which they lead in the title race with six points despite the 2-2 draw of Saturday with Borussia Dortmund.
But the expectations at Bayern reach beyond the domestic dominance, and Kompany was asked at his press conference before the match about the possibility that he lost his job if they do not produce a turnaround.
“You always ask what happens when we are eliminated. What if we continue? I get a new contract? But our mentality is that we make it,” Kompany replied.
“That is how we go into play. We are mid-April and we are one match away from the semi-final of the Champions League three victories away from winning the Bundesliga. That is an opportunity. We live for the chance”
Bayern has not saved a clean magazine in any of their last five games, all of which Jonas Urbig have seen replaced for the injured Manuel Neuer.
However, Kompany is satisfied with what he has seen of Urbig at the time.
“That is one of the positive stories that we have to take away. Despite the setbacks, we have 100 percent confident that we can do it with these guys,” Kompany added.
“What Jonas and the other boys have shown so far is that they can do the performances that will give us results. The pressure is on the experienced players. We are taking Jonas’ energy and talent with us.”
An important selection problem for Kompany -that can play wide. Michael Olise and Leroy Sane started against Dortmund, but it was Serge Gnabry who came from the bank to set up Bayern with 2-1.
“We have more than two players who have performed there. That is very important for tomorrow,” Kompany explained.
“The game will go completely, in the first leg a lot has happened in the final phase. That is why it is important that Serge Gnobry, Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise are in shape.
“We will see tomorrow who starts. The boys have performed, hopefully they will be it again tomorrow.”
