On Monday, the New Orleans Pelicans announced that they closed Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum for the rest of 2024-25. The team only has seven games this season. Williamson played in 30 of their 82 games. Since he entered the NBA, Williamson has missed 278 competitions. This includes the last seven games of the 2024-25 season. It was a tough fight for the dual all-star to stay completely healthy.
That is why Stephen A. Smith of ESPN Williamson called a “bust” in terms of his availability. Smith said that the former #1 general choice is a ‘monster’ on the field. However, it is to be immediately available for the Pelicans, is his biggest obstacle as a professional. Stephen A. was not out of the line and called Williamson a “bust”. He missed nearly 300 games in his six NBA seasons.
The 24-year-old missed the entire season 2021-22 due to an injury. If you do not count those 82 games, Williamson still missed 196 for five seasons. He played more than 60+ games twice in his career for the Pelicans. In three of his five healthy seasons, Williamson played for fewer games in 30 games. At this point the pelicans can be stuck to Williamson on their selection. Who would want to exchange for a player who cannot stay healthy and is not immediately available? New Orleans is in a difficult place.
