Trae Young accepts a role as an assistant GM for Oklahoma Sooners

Trae Young is perhaps only 26 years old, but he has already accepted a role as an assistant-all-generity director for Oklahoma’s basketball. The Hawks -Superster has decided to take on this position in the staff of his former school, while he also promised to donate $ 1 million to the program.

The announcement, which was made on Monday, proves the love of Young for the team that helped his career in the NBA. The graduate of the Norman High School was an all-American for the Sooners in 2017-18 and became the first player in the history of NCAA Division 1 who led the country in points (27.4) and assists (8.7) per match.

The four-fold NBA All-Star was eventually drafted as the number 5 General choice in Atlanta. “If someone who grew up in Norman and played at the University of Oklahoma, the role of assistant GM for Ou basketball is a huge honor,” Trae shared in a statement.

“This program has such a rich history, which I am lucky to be part of it and stay part of it,” he added. “In my new role, my focus is on helping to contribute to the winning culture of OU, together with the coaching staff and the Front Office to get the right players to help us compete and succeed at the highest level.”

The Atlanta Guard helps the program with the evaluation of high school and transfer portal perspectives, and guides players in building their career and negotiating contracts. “Trae is a son of Norman, Oklahoma, and he has given so much to our city and her people,” said team athletic director Joe Castiglione.

“He has a strong affinity for this place and his dedication to ensure that our community is a thriving is really unparalleled.” Joe added. “He is also an OU legend who, in his time here and since then, continues to reach excellence, both on and outside the field.”

With this decision, Trae joins Warriors star Stephen Curry as the only two current NBA players who take on an administrative role in their Alma Mater. Not long ago, the all -time leader in three instructions was called an assistant GM near Davidson.
