Last weekend the NBA had its 2025 All-Star festivities. Mac McClung won his third consecutive Dunk competition and Tyler Herro won the 3-point competition.

The All-Star match was played on Sunday. In 2025, the competition introduced a new branch format. According to reports, there were five times more commercials and breaks than basketball that was played. The All-Star game felt like a huge advertisement for the NBA and its sponsors.

What can the NBA move forward to repair the All-Star game?

The breakdown of the All-Star match on Sunday evening is shocking. Two hours and 26 minutes of commercials and breaks were in the period of three hours, so that only 33 minutes and 41 seconds actually left basketball. In the new All-Star game format of the competition, two semi-final matchups would meet in the champion competition. After each event there was a musical performance or something else that delayed the All-Star game.

It is extremely difficult for the NBA to keep their fans involved on Sunday evening when a majority of the evening is advertisements and commercials. There were almost five times as many commercials and advertisements if there was basketball. The NBA is a company and they must keep all parties in mind. However, the competition sacrifices the quality of their product to earn a few extra dollars.

In 2025 the Bracket All-Star Game format was a success. We saw something similar a few years ago when the NBA introduced a target score in the All-Star game. The product in court was more competitive than in recent years, but fans were furious about the amount of commercials and breaks. What will commissioner Adam Silver do to repair the All-Star game for players and fans?
