Orlando, Fla. (AP)-Russell Henley delivered a late indictment that Arnold Palmer would have made proud, covered by engaging in the 16th hole to gather with a 2-under 70 at Bay Hill on Sunday for the biggest victory of his career.
Henley followed Collin Morikawa with three shots with five holes to play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational when it all changed with a few fluctuations with two shots.
Morikawa missed the green on the par-3 14th hole and took Bogey, while Henley hit his tee shot to just within 10 feet for Birdie, which cut the shortage to one shot. However, nothing was more stunning than the par-5 16th hole.
Morikawa explained a fairway bunker and beat Wig to 18 feet. Henley went rough through the green to thick and had to go from more than 50 feet along the slope to a front pin on a green yellow, as if it had hardly any grass.
It ran to the hole when it hit the pin and fell to Eagle, so he first led the entire day when Morikawa could not convert his Birdie Putt.
Henley ended with two pars and Morikawa, who closed with a 72, could not catch him.
Corey Conners opened with 15 straight pars, made a Birdie in his round of 71 and finished two shots behind. The consolation prize for the Canadian earned the only place that was available this week this week in the British Open this summer at Royal Portush.
Henley finished 277 at 11 under and earned $ 4 million out of $ 20 million wallet. It was his fifth career victory on the PGA Tour, although never against a field so strong. The victory moves him to No. 7 in the world.
