Newcastle V Brentford Match Preview

Four days after the euphoria of a trophy parade around the city to celebrate their EFL Cup final triumph over Liverpool, Newcastle has the basic perspective to return to Premier League promotion against a Brentford side that defeated them 4-2 in December.

Newcastle lost their last home game a month ago and 2-1 extra-time defeat of Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup-en Manager Eddie Howe acknowledged that psychology had been a “huge thing” in building a potential crucial game to earn Champions League qualification.

“I have seen a really good reaction from the players,” said Howe, to think about the challenge to ensure that the competitive form of his team is not influenced by the seismic effect of winning the first major trophy of the club since 1955.

“I have not seen any over-reaction-I have seen the kind of reaction that I expect. This will be an important moment in our season. The question mark is whether we can be the team we were against Liverpool.”

Newcastle could go fourth with the victory, while Brentford has little room for mistakes if they want to play their hope for the first time in Europe.

The 11th -placed bees started the week three points behind Bournemouth directly above them and four shy by Aston Villa and Fulham.

“I hope they had an incredible party because they deserved it,” said Brentford manager Thomas Frank about Newcastle. β€œIt is their first big cup in almost a life.

“It is an incredible achievement for them and I am really happy on their behalf. I am pretty sure that they will come flying under the spotlight for a party. They will try everything they can to detect that Champions League place.”
