Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised his side because he was not distracted by the upcoming League Cup final in Wembley to pick up a much-needed Premier League win at West Ham.
Captain Bruno Guimaraes scored the only goal of the game to lift the magpies to sixth place in the table.
They are now opposed to Liverpool in Wembley on Sunday for the Champen to lift a Dmoestic trophy for the first time in 70 years.
Howe said: “That was one of our best victories of the season, not in terms of performance but desire and heart.
“We have shown all the big ingredients you need to be a successful team. You have to win when the game is tight and find a way to cross the line. We really defended well after the first three minutes that were a bit scary. We deserved the victory.
“That’s why it was such a good victory for me, it would be easy for the players to be distracted, but they were present. We will now fully concentrate on Liverpool. We take everything into consideration.
“I felt that we needed a victory to enter the final with a real boost and lift.”
Bored for West Ham, she leaves them in 16th place, with Baas Graham Potter unhappy with the only purpose of the game.
He said: “I thought it was a dedicated performance of us.
“The game ebbed and flows. We are disappointed about the goal, it looks like two hands in the back of our in the back.
“We had a few moments, not enough to win, but we were committed enough to get enough out of the game.
“We have tried to tackle the foundation and give ourselves some stability. As I said, the effort, application and the desire to run back and suffer for each other was there.
“On the back of two wins it was not built one day. We have to move step by step. You have to continue moving. “
