Boca Raton – Golf Ventilators get a rare opportunity to view Hall of Famers from two sports team up in the first two rounds of the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational of this week that starts on Friday at Broken Sound Club.
The combinations were released on Monday and revealed three teams with Hall of Famers from the NFL and Professional Golf: Vijay Singh playing with “Megatron” Calvin Johnson; Retief Goosen in combination with receiver Steve Largent; And Colin Montgomerie with safety Roger Wehrli. They play the first two rounds together on Friday and Saturday with the NFL players who use a handicap for the best event.
Other selection frameworks are John Daly with old Miami Dolphins Nemesis Andre Reed, the ex-buffalo recipient; Boo Weekley and the Luscious Warren Sapp; Stuart’s Ken Duke and Lawrence Taylor; Jerry Kelly and Jerome Bettis; Billy Andrade with former Bucs Cornerback Round Barber; and David Duval with declining Terrell Davis.
“You don’t often get the chance to see the absolute best in what they do in the NFL and professional wave that plays side by side,” said Kennerly, executive director of the tournament. “I know that golfers are enthusiastic about this rare opportunity. I am sure the fans will be.”
Other Pro Football Hall of Famers are planned to compete this week are Anthony Munoz, Demarcus Ware, Dwight Freeey, Richard Dent, John Randle, Rickey Jackson, Mike Haynes, Randall McDaniel, Tim Brown, Jan Staulud, Jonathan. Taylor, Stenerud, Reed and Faulk only play on Friday because of a conflict.
Kelly looks forward to spending 36 holes with Bettis. “I can’t wait to get on the bus and drive it all the way home,” said Kelly.
The PGA Tour Champions has held a tournament at Broken Sound since 2007, but this is the first time that the championship has legends of the NFL that is involved during the first two rounds. The PGA Tour Champions Field with 78 players will be completed on Tuesday when four golfers move forward in a qualifying match at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound.
