“We not only make one film about The Beatles – we make four,” said Mendes during the presentation of Sony, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “Maybe this is an opportunity to understand them a little deeper.”

During the presentation, Sony Pictures Chief Tom Rothman described the project as “the first bingable theatrical experience.” Mendes emphasized the need for daring ideas to breathe new life into the cash register: “We need great cinematic events to get people out of the house,” he said.

Mendes turned to the multi-film approach after he originally considered it one film, realizing that “the story was too great to fit in a single film,” Variety reported. The director also emphasized the importance of seeing each member of the band as an individual artist who wants to reach every film.

Who plays the Beatles?

Before the official announcement on Monday, various actors would be affiliated with the project – including those who were cast.
