Manchester United will update supporters about a proposed their stadium project on Tuesday after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had repeated his desire for a new Old Trafford.

United has investigated whether they should redevelop their existing location or build a new stadium in the same area in combination with the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force.

Lord Sebastian Coe has chairman of the Task Force and is expected to speak alongside Ratcliffe during a stadium project update in London on Tuesday.

Ratcliffe said to Gary Neville on the overlappodcast: “If you have the opinion that it is the largest football club in the world, it should be a new stadium if it is going to build a new stadium that fits the largest club in the world.

“And also a stadium that matches the largest competition in the world because the Premier League is the largest competition in the world.

“And at the moment, if you look at the Premier League, we have a number of great stadiums, but we don’t have Bernabeu, right? And we don’t have the new well -camp. We don’t have that in the Premier League, although it is the largest competition in the world.

“And also, if you look at the north of England, the Noord -England has won 10 Champions League final and London has won two, so there are quite a few reasons to have the most iconic football stadium in the world in the north of England in the largest club in the world.”

Ratcliffe said that United “does not need government financing” for a new stadium, but emphasized that it should be part of a project supported by the government to regenerate the area around Old Trafford.
