Liverpool 0-1 Paris Saint-Germain (1-1 on aggregate, PSG Win 4-1 on penalties): Nunez and Jones Miss in shoot-out while Reds Crashen

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma

Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed in the penalty shoot-out when Paris Saint-Germain ended the Champions League of Liverpool on Anfield.

After he won 1-0 at night to level the draw on 1-1, PSG held their nerve while they scored all four spotkicks and Gianluigi Donnarumma the rest with two excellent saves.

It was an absorbent game that fluctuated both sides. Liverpool started excellent to be caught alone on the counter by Ousmane Dembele’s 21st goal of 2025.

PSG should have continued the peace before Liverpool dominated the second period.

The pendulum again waved in extra time with PSG who came around three times from the edge.

As it was, they were pushed all the way to a penalty shoot-out in which they never walked. Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Dembele and Desire Doue were all, just like Mohamed Salah for Liverpool.

The Reds have little time to feel sorry for themselves, because their next game comes on Sunday when they are confronted in the final of the EFL Cup.

Blistering Start of Liverpool

Liverpool started in an ominous mood, swarmed everywhere on PSG and denied the visitors every room on the ball.

It was a completely different game and atmosphere, last week on the Parc des Princes when the men of Luis Enrique were firmly on the rear in the draw for the first time.

The head broke each tackle when Liverpool flowed forward and created three presentable opportunities within the first 10 minutes.

The best fell on Salah. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have opened the PSG defense and celebrated the Argentinian for Salah, who seemed to have the simple task to only put it in the net for his shot to hit the leg of Nuno Mendes and fly over the bar.

Salah then shot closely wide and the deliberate header of Captain Virgil van Dijk was blocked at De Lijn by Mendes.

It seemed a matter of time before there was a goal and it arrived properly after 12 minutes – only on the other side.

The best chance of PSG on the night would always come through a counterattack and they used that tactic into a clinical effect. Dembele led a quick break of just within his own half before he slid left from the right in Bradley Barcola. The cross of Barcola was pushed past Alisson by the vast part of Ibrahima Konate and Dembele was present to tap home.

Konate almost immediately made up for a 25 -meter shot that brought a smart, diving stop from Donnarumma before PSG almost doubled their advantage.

This time it was Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who led the break before sliding in Barcola, but his effort was smothered by the advancing Alisson.

Suddenly it was PSG that bore the greater threat and they should have increased their lead in the night before the break.

Dembele, unusual, picks his chance

Dembele took a heavy touch when he cleaned – so that Alisson could come and smother – before the former wing player of Barcelona saw two efforts flashes inches wide, both via deflections.

Arne Slot would have been relieved to get his players without further damage and they started the second half in more assertive mood.

Szoboszlai saw an attempt excluded for offside against Diogo Jota – the piece that went on for a long time after the Portuguese apparently was past the last man – and the Hungary – midfielder also saw a snapshot that was excellently blocked by Willian Pancho.

Donnarumma had looked shaky all night and after he had fought in another Mac Allister corner, he needed Kvaratskhelia to crochet Salah’s shot.

The Italy -International was defeated after 79 minutes, but replacement header from Jarell Quansah came back from the inside of the post, although the offside flag rose shortly thereafter.

Kvaratskhelia curled a painful over the bar with four minutes to go, but beaten at that stage would have been hard on a Liverpool side that dominated the second 45 minutes.

Beraldo and Doue come within the centimeters of repairing the lead of PSG

PSG came again in extra time when the home team seemed to be running out without gas.

And the Ligue 1-leaders could have scored three times over a largely one-sided 30 minutes.

Lucas Beraldo previously led a corner wide, a minute later Doue’s Quick Feet enabled him to get a shot from that beat Alisson, but not the upright.

Brazil International Alisson then again distinguished itself with a brilliant rescue to keep Dembele’s shot out, but was unable to do little in the shoot-out while PSG progressed to a meeting with Aston Villa or Club Brugge.
