Ponte Vedra Beach, FLA. Junior Jonathan Griz Birdied Five of his first eight holes in the Sawgrass Country Club on Saturday and shot 5-under-par 67 to lead Alabama to the first round lead in the Hayt, a university golf invitation organized by the University of North Florida.

No. 14 South Carolina and no. 9 Virginia are in third place in 2-under, Charlotte is 1-over and title defender and no. 8 North Carolina and no. 4 Texas are in sixth place on 2-over.

Griz conquered a few stumbling halfway through the round and Birdied de Par-5 18one To end with a one-shot lead over Senior Luke Sample and Junior William Love by Duke, Junior Justin Matthews by Charlotte and senior Nathan Franks by South Carolina.
Crimson Tide Junior Dominic Clemons shot 69 to bind for sixth and Senior Connor Brown placed a 70 to bind for the ninth. Griz is the only top-50 player of Alabama at number 47 in the Scorecard rankings and Clemons is the only other tidal player under the top 100, at 88one.
Senior David Ford from North Carolina, the number 1 classified player of Scorecard, Shot 69, no. 3 Tommy Morris of Texas Shot 75 and no. 5 Daniel Bennett van Ut Shot 71. Both are juniors.
The host team is 10one on 7-over. Sophomore Filippo Serra led the Ospreys with a 70 to bind for the ninth and junior Justin Ross, who played as an individual, shot 72.
North Carolina defeated Alabama with four shots in Hayt last year. Alabama has won the tournament twice, in 2007 and 2008.
