A wild fight with at least two men who were accompanied from the gym in handcuffs, got the headlines for a Pennsylvania Boys Basketball Playoff match on Friday evening between Uniontown and Meadville.
“I have never seen anything that this broke out ugly,” said a announcer for the game in a video placed on the USH Talk YouTube channel. “This was really a shame.”
High School Basketball Playoff competition was mentioned in the fourth quarter, with Meadville 63-55 led via Uniontown
The Crazy Fight resulted in the game called with Meadville who led 63-55 with 3:12 over in the fourth quarter, and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (Piaa) has to post a winner on her website for the first round 5a game from Monday morning.
“I contacted the schools involved and I asked a report from them before Monday with last night,” Piaa-executing director Robert Lombardi told the Erie Times-News. “I have no further comment until I receive their reports.”
It all unfolded on the 1:28:50 Mark in the YouTube video below. The skirmish started late in the fourth quarter after the referees called a technical on Uniontown after an error from Meadville after a defender had hit the ball loose.
The announcers who called the game could not see which player or side where the referees had called the technical before they realized that the visiting team had been hit by the technical and a player had reached his error limit.
Then the game commentators behind the MICs reported the viewers that the fans had begun unmanageable.
“Uniontown fans are going after the officials here a bit,” said the most important announcer. “Maybe you have some destructions here. Some fans of the Uniontown get terribly hot. “
Fans praised in the sections behind the Meadville bank
Fans soon started fighting in the sections behind the Meadville Bank, so that the Uniontown player could eventually shoot his free throws.
A fan in a white sweater threw bumps before he was brought down from behind by a man in a green shirt with long sleeves. Several people then held the man in the sweater.
While the fight took place in the stands, fans ran the field near the Uniontown players.
“And now you let players step in. Uh oh. This will be really bad. This will be really bad on both sides, “said the announcer. ‘You have still released people here on the field.
“What’s going on? What’s wrong with these people? … you have tried to fight players everywhere and this is absolutely crazy. To be honest, both schools, you can’t have this going on. ‘
Moments later, various police officers led a man in a blue shirt from the gym in cuffs for his alleged role in the fight, while another fan ran from one end of the gym to another in handcuffs.
The cheerleaders eventually left and a man then dedicated the fans to leave through separate outputs.
“It turned into a boxing match. We came here to call a basketball game … “said the most important announcer while the gym started to clear.
The other announcer added: “It changed to Wrestlemania.”
Crawford Central School District Superintendent spoke De BraWl
Meadville -Coach Mark Mcelhinny told the New York Post That his team handled the incident, but both parties will probably receive suspensions in the coming days.
“The children are doing well,” said Mcelhinny. “I think they are optimistic, but it sounds like we have to wait until Monday to find out if we’re going further.”
Crawford Central School District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer A. Galdon condemned the actions of the fans.
“Due to an unfortunate incident that took place during the basketball game last night, the game was brought to an early conclusion,” Galdon now told Erie News.
“Although we regret this unexpected end, the safety and well -being of players, fans and employees remain our top priority. The district is disappointed with this unfortunate result, because the game was intended as a showcase of competition and sportiness. We remind all fans that respectful and sporting behavior is expected at all times. “
Hershey will play the confirmed winner on Tuesday.
