Newcastle -Baas Eddie Howe has called on his players to use the last 10 Premier League matches to build on their success in the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies won their first domestic trophy in 70 years at Wembley before the international break and defeated Liverpool in Wembley to lift a rare piece of cutlery.

And hundreds of thousands gathered on Tyneside to join the Parade and cherish in the parties including local heroes and December, as well as Alan Shearer.

But for Howe, attention was sent back to the Premier League and the search of Newcastle to secure Champions League football.

They will be confronted with Brentford on Wednesday, a team that they lost earlier in the 4-2 campaign.

In his press conference before the game, the Newcastle head coach admitted that the defeat was a catalyst for their season and spoke about what he hopes for in the last part.

He said: It was a very difficult day. It was a catalyst for us in terms of regrouping and changing the momentum of our season. After that we were really won.

“We had a thorough analysis of that game. We know that Brentford is a good team and we also played them on our way to the Carabao Cup final and that was a difficult game.

“Thomas [Frank] Has done really good work there. They are strong in set pieces. Their out of the way is now really strong and they are a free scoring side. So it will be very difficult.

“It has been a matter of setting up and looking at our goals again. We have to do what has been brought in mind with Liverpool and now really focus on the future.

We enjoyed the break. We went to the Carabao Cup -final knowing that we had time to absorb what happened in that game. Fortunately it was positive.

“But now we are ready to play again. That is what we do. We are still in the middle of the season. It has been a long break. But we have tried to navigate that as well as possible with all the emotion around the game we had. But we are focused on the next game.

“We have 10 games and 10 great opportunities to try to make our Premier League season a memorable one such as the Cup final. We look forward to it and I hope the boys will be stimulated and have renewed confidence.”

Newcastle is in the Premier League table sixth, but are only two points in fourth place Chelsea, who are facing Tottenham on Thursday.

A victory could catapult them in the Champions League places, with the fifth expecting an extra place in the competition.
