Millennials, look forward to: Drake & Josh Talk things out.
A year after Drake Bell was revealed Calm on the set: The Dark Side of Kids TV That he was sexually abused as a child actor during his term of office, he appeared on his former co-star Josh Peck’s Podcast, Good guys” Co -organized with Ben Soffer, to discuss the trauma, their hot and cold friendship and the inheritance of the show.
“This will be as therapy,” Bell said at the top of the episode, which premiered on 24 March.
Over the years, Bell and Josh have broadcast their grievances, with the collection meal that although their names will be linked forever, their friendship – of collaboration as children who debuted more than 20 years ago (and The Amanda Show before that) – Faded. During the conversation they recognized that even while Drake & Josh Things were complicated when they reported the star rendom, adolescence and Bell that Nickelodeon Dialogue Coach Brian Peck (no relationship with Josh) reported for sexual abuse.
“There were times when we had a lot of around and we were around, and then there were times that, not for whatever reason, [we] It just wasn’t, “said Bell.” We had to deal with a lot of shit outside of our … [relationship]. “
Bell explained that between The Amanda Show ending in 2002 and Drake & Josh He premiered in 2004, he told his mother that he was sexually abused by Brian Peck, who was his senior for 26 years, and they went to the police. During the investigation, Brian continued to come to the set – and Teen Bell had to continue as if it were just businesslike.
“When we shot the pilot, we were in the middle of the investigation, but nobody [knew] Something because Brian was not arrested, “said Bell.” The worst [was] sample [my] Safe Place, “Hang around on the set where he and Josh” hang out and put on our masks and wigs and makeup and make people laugh. “
He continued: ‘Every day I got there [and] The monster was there. … he walks around. “
So what this great experience should have been for them was exactly the opposite because of the background drama that Bell’s secret was.
‘I’m going to Drake & Josh Phase, where we should be … Partners. This is our time. Let’s do it. [But] I came back to the same stage, the same parking lot, the same changing rooms … everything triggers, “said Bell.” And in the back of my head I work all the time that I work on the pilot, I know this research is taking place [and] This guy is about to be arrested [and] That shit is about to touch the fan and nobody here knows. And I am 14 or 15. “
Bell said he had “lost my hair” and “golf ball size crusts” on his head of the stress.
Josh said because he didn’t know what was happening: “I just looked at it through the prism of the brain of a 14-year-old:” Ah, he doesn’t want much to do with me. “
Brian did not argue for performing a lusty act with a 14 or 15-year-old and oral copulation with a minor under 16 in 2004. At his conviction, Brian had a room with supporters and had submitted about 40 letters from famous people in the industry that confirmed to his good character, making Bell felt even more alone and confused.
The identity of the minor “John Doe” was usually a secret. Josh, who was also largely in the dark, spoke about not knowing what to make Brian, who suddenly disappeared on the set ‘once’, suddenly disappeared. (Brian served 18 months in prison.)
“I knew nothing, except that I had the feeling that something was happening,” said Josh. “I remember being in the car … and I said,” Are you still talking to Brian? ” And you just looked at me [and said] “No, Brian is really a bad guy.” And I remember thinking, “Gotcha.” It was all I had to know. ‘

Josh spoke about the fact that they were ‘many inappropriate things’ at the children’s workplace and a general ‘lack of protection’. Josh said it was “absolutely insane” that things like that “could have been allowed in every respect. At the age of 14 I remember that this relationship is inappropriate.”
Josh said, however, that “there were so many micro infactions … That you would see one day and just go, I don’t know that would be cool somewhere else, but here, yes. And so if you had tyrannic bosses or just people who acted inappropriate, I think the assumption was in Hollywood, this was just a part of it.”
They spoke about how, despite the backstage-gay-on, the show they created while children stand in many ways and how they feel happy that they could manage, but you could not avoid the disadvantage.
“There is also the truth of everything you have experienced and everything that was an experience for a child who was unacceptable in so many ways,” Josh said.
He continued: ‘I remember people asking me about the show [in the years after it ended] And I would say: ‘Well, I lost 100 pounds and had to become sober at the age of 21. Did I seem happy? It’s a bit of a sign. ‘ But [I also think]: How much do I just keep this for myself and do I allow this wonderful memory for people to just keep existing? “
Bell said that he is also struggling with that, but does not want what happened to him, ruined the show, which he holds close to his heart.
‘I had many people apart [saying]’Oh, don’t worry, Drake, we’ll never see the show again [because we know] What you went through while you were making [it]”He said.” I am like: WHOA, WHOA. No, no, no, no, no. When [it was] Lights, camera, action and I walk in and Josh is wearing a dress that … was where I was actually comfortable and happy and happy. I am very proud of what we did. I loved the show. “
Josh added: “It was very special and you can’t make it again.”
