Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens told Jeff Goodman about the field of 68 on Friday that he is “not a candidate” for the men’s basketball head coach position at the University of Indiana.
This news comes when the current Hoosiers-head coach Mike Woodson will resign after the 2024-25 season.
“I greatly appreciate being a Celtic and love the people I work with every day,” Stevens told the media network.

Brad Stevens is a resident of Indiana and went to Depauw University in GreenCastle, Indiana. He then joined Butler University and eventually became the head coach of the program.
Stevens combined a general record of 166-49 as head coach of the Bulldogs, while the program led to five NCAA tournament performances, three conference titles and one trip to the NCAA Championship Game.

Stevens was hired by the Celtics after the 2012-13 season. He then served as the Celtics-head coach from 2013-14 to 2020-21 before he was traveling from the position to his current role.
During his time at the NBA franchise, the Celtics made the play-offs 10 times, the NBA Finals reached twice and won the NBA Championship 2023-24.
Indiana said Woodson would resign after the season
Last week Indiana announced that Woodson would resign at the end of the season. De Hoosiers have a record of 15-11 and are about to their second consecutive season without a NCAA tournament performance. Indiana is in 17th place in the AP -season survey.
“During a meeting with coach Woodson on Wednesday, he told me that he wanted to resign as the head coach of our program at the end of the current season,” said Indiana Athletic director Scott Dolson in a statement on Friday.

“He said it had weighed in his head for a while, and that it was an emotional and difficult decision. We have subsequently had thoughtful conversations about his decision and his desire to ensure that the program is in the best position that it can be ahead. At a suitable moment, Coach Woodson will express his feelings about his decision and his experiences in the past four years.
“It is clear to me from our discussions in recent days that his number 1 is a priority to make the attention be rid of him, and instead aimed at uniting Hoosier Nation to support our student athletes , coaches and, more importantly, the program. We still have a lot to play for this season, while we are preparing for Saturday’s game against Michigan and the rest of the 2024-25 season, and we want to encourage Hoosier fans to collect the program and support it on the same positive Way as Hoosier fans did during Mike’s All-America and Big Ten MVP play career. “
Woodson replaced Archie Miller in 2021
Indiana reached the NCAA tournament in each of the first two seasons of Woodson, including a second place Big Ten-Finish in 2023. The Hoosiers earned the number 4 seed in the NCAA tournament before they fell to the final four-candidate Miami in the Second round.
De Hoosiers went 21-14 in 2021-22, fought their way to the first four of the NCAA tournament and defeated Wyoming before she fell to Saint Mary in the first round.
After an NBA career with 11 years as a player and 25 years as head coach and assistant coach, Woodson was hired by his Alma Mater in 2021 to replace Archie Miller.
Miller was fired by Indiana on March 15, 2021. He finished his four seasons in Indiana with a record of 67-56, a 33-43 Big Ten record and no NCAA tournament performances.
