Borussia Dortmund produced an exciting display for their home fans, but eventually lacked their attempt to destroy a shortage of four goals, to defeat Barcelona with 3-1 in the night, but lost 5-3 in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Dortmund came in the second stage 4-0, but they didn’t waste time to show their intention.
The German side dominated the opening fairs and generated a flurry of early chances.
Maximilian Beier, Karim Adeyemi and Daniel Svensson all tested Wojciech Szczesny, who was taken into action several times in a hectic first 10 minutes.
The breakthrough came in the 11th minute. A VAR assessment destroyed an offside decision to grant Dortmund a penalty after Szczenny Pascal Gross had brought down.
Serhou Guirassy stepped up and converted cool, immersing the ball in the middle to give the hosts a deserved lead and to ignite the crowd even further.
Barcelona struggled to cope with Dortmund’s ruthless urgent and direct attacks.

Shortly after the restart Dortmund struck again. A well-processed corner routine saw Bensebaini nod the ball over the goal for Guirassy, who went home from close range to double the lead and reduce the aggregated score to 4-2.
Just as Dortmund seemed to get the upper hand, a disaster struck. At 54 minutes, Barca’s Fermin Lopez drilled a layer of cross in the box that took Bensebaini and bended in his own net, so that a pillow of three goals for the visitors was aggregated on 5-2.
Despite the setback, Dortmund never stopped believing. Replacement Julien Duranville made an immediate impact, burst past defenders and delivered a dangerous cross.
Ronald Araujo’s attempt at approval fell directly to Guirassy, who hit home to complete his hat trick and bring it to 3-1 in the night, 5-3 on aggregated.
It was a record-breaking moment for Guirassy, who only became the fourth Dortmund player who became a hat-trick of the Champions League-hat after Lewandowski, Aubameyang and Adeyemi.
With Momentum by their side and just less than 15 minutes to go, Dortmund pushed hard for a dramatic comeback. Brandt had the ball in just after the rise, but his goal was excluded from offside.
