Angel Yin wins the LPGA Thailand tournament for the 2nd career title

Pattaya, Thailand (AP)-Angel Yin has etched her name in the history of the ladies tour with a record-breaking victory over the LPGA Thailand Tournament, with which she secured her second Toursitel with a Low Winning Score of 260 of all time at Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course on Sunday.

The World No. 17 delivered a flawless final round 65 to end at 28-under-par and aimed the Japanese Rookie Akie Iwai with a single stroke.

Her winning totally improved the previous LPGA record of 261 set by Annika Sorenstam in Arizona in 2001. Yin rewrote the 72-hole record of 262 of the tournament, and surpassed the previous marking of Nanna Koerstz and XIyu Lin of 2022.

“I was not that comfortable because Akie shot 10-under the first day and this course is very table. So I just had to keep my head down, “Yin said.

Despite starting the final round with an advantage of five stroke, Yin was confronted with ruthless pressure from sponsor who invited Iwai, who charged the leaderboard and temporarily shared the leader at 24-under after a Birdie on the 12th hole. Yin, who last triumphed in the Buick Lpga Shanghai of 2023, responded with three consecutive birdies to get back control and never looked back.

The 26-year-old is the fourth American who conquered the LPGA Thailand title and joins Lilia VU (2023), Jessica Korda (2018) and Lexi Thompson (2016). She is also a two-time second place-on the Chevron Championship 2023 and the US Women’s Open 2019.

Although he finished second, Iwai wrote of her own history, where she fired a tournament run of 61. She tortured 10 birdies and a closing eagle against a lonely bogey to settle at 261.

World No. 2 Jeeno Atthikul of Thailand was in third place with a final round 66, ending in 267. Defending champion Patty Tavatana kit and colleague Thai Moriya Jutanugarn shared fourth place in 269.

The event is the first stop of the so -called Asian swing of the LPGA before the Tour goes to Singapore and China for the next two weeks.
