Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim believes that his party earned more from their 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest, but admitted that their own inefficiency in attack cost them the game.
The Red Devils suffered their 13th defeat of the season thanks to the solo effort of former player Anthony Elanga, but were a pity not to take something after it near a number of opportunities.
Speaking with TNT Sports, Amorim thought about a frustrating evening for United, who dominated the property and created opportunities but found no breakthrough.
The Portuguese manager said: “We checked the game, but we already knew that this team could score goals out of nothing. When they scored, we changed the game a bit of what they want.
“We tried with good chances, but in the last third part, the last pass, the last assist was not there. If we don’t have that, we can’t score goals.”
Amorim: ‘We must be better in Final third’
It was a well -known story for United this season, according to Amorim, with his side that has difficulty changing dominance into goals.
“This season is true,” he said. “We had a lot of shots on the goal, we pushed the opponent to the last third part, but in the last third part we had a lack of quality.
“We have to win games, and we earned more in this game, that is clear, but it is our fault and we should be better in the last third part. We should have won this game, not even signed, but in the end we lost three points.”
More counterattack misery
The vulnerability of United for counterattacks was again exposed because Forest made the most out of their limited opportunities.
Amorim added: “We know the characters of the team and one goal can place them in one situation they love. We have to score two goals to win a match, and that is frustrating because it was the start of the game. We helped them to win three points.”
Despite the disappointment, Amorim insists that he sees progress and remains focused on the upcoming challenges in both the Premier League and the Europa League.
“I see it in the game. I don’t lie to myself; everyone can say what they want to say, but we have to win games. We are going to the next game. We have Europa League and we have the next game in the Premier League, and that is the focus.”
