Former ESPN Sportswriter and senior NBA -Sinsider Adrian Wojnarowski was honored on Friday with the Curt Gowdy Media Award. Nicknamed Woj, the 55-year-old was one of the four Gowdy Award winners and received the honor in the insight category.
“I had only hoped to have a career as a sportswriter, and for me this honor reflects all the people who believed in me, gave me chances, helped me on this road, and that is what comes to me first,” Wojnarowski told it network.

“So many of my idols, from Jackie Macmullan to Michael Wilbon to Doris Burke to Harvey Araton, have been honored earlier, and it is outside of my wildest dreams to be in that company,” added Wojnarowski.
The Curt Gowdy Media Award is awarded to members of the print, electronic and transforming media whose efforts have made an important contribution to the basketball game.
The Gowdy winners will be honored 5-6 September in addition to this year’s Naismith Hall of Fame-Class. NBA Legends Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard and Wnba Icon SUE Bird belong to the candidates for 2025 Enshrinement.
Adrian Wojnarowski withdrew from ESPN in September
Wojnarowski’s journalistic career started in his native Connecticut in Waterbury, where he covered the University of Connecticut before he went to The Fresno bees in California and then the Bergen Record In New Jersey.
According to his old ESPN biography, Wojnarowski was subsequently hired by Yahoo Sports in 2007. A decade later he joined ESPN in his hometown of Bristol, Connecticut, and became one of the best Sportswriters.
“I came to the media in a unique time,” said Wojnarowski, “and I came along in a time media and the competition, and I was the beneficiary of good timing and incredible support of people I worked in the NBA, ESPN and Yahoo. “
In September, Wojnarowski announced his retirement of “the worldwide leader in Sport” and agreed to become the general director of the basketball program for men to his Alma Mater, St. Bonaventure University.
“I hope that I can bring value to our basketball program and open doors in many areas for the future of our young men on both professional and personal,” he said.
In May 2022, Wojnarowski received an honorary doctorate from St. Bonaventure. He also graduated from the Western New York School in 1991 and a prominent alumnus of the Jandoli School of Communication.
